The Matterhorn

If you are visiting Switzerland the Matterhorn is a must-see. And believe me, you will not regret it at all. The Matterhorn is, with a high of 4478 meters, one of the highest mountains of the Alpes.
In Switzerland we have also this very famous chocolate called “Toblerone” and it comes in the shape of Matterhorn. So if you missed the Matterhorn while your trip in Switzerland, then you should at least buy a bar of Toblerone. 😉

How to get there by train
To see the Matterhorn you have to visit Zermatt first. Zermatt is perfectly accessible from Visp by train. Take the train from Bern to Visp (duration 1 hour), then from Visp you take the Gornergrat railway up to Zermatt (duration 1 hour). To check the timetable and buy your ticket please visit the website of SBB (Swiss Federal Railways).
> Price estimation: from Visp to Zermatt, one-way, 2nd class CHF 37.00 / person
How to get there by car
Please note that Zermatt is car-free. So if you would like to visit Zermatt by car, access for private cars is only permitted to Täsch. The village Zermatt
Zermatt is a small mountain village but has a lot to offer. In winter Zermatt offers over 350 km of pistes for skiing and snowboarding and the ski lifts go up the highest point, to the Klein Matterhorn at 3,883 m. But Zermatt offers also a lot in Summer, you will find a wide range of different hiking paths, you can just enjoy the beautiful charm of this little village, you can go up to Gornergrat, which offers an amazing view (see below) or you visit the museum of Matterhorn, which is located in the middle of the village. On the website of Zermatt Tourism, you will find a lot more to do in Zermatt. Have fun!
